Young Scientist Exhibiton Progress Update

Saturday, December 4th, 2010

Our group is very excited to be accepted into the BT young scientist exhibition for 2010/2011 and we’re very pleased with the project we have chosen. The title of our project is Light Up Your Diet. The objective of this experiment is to see if sugar concentrations of soft drinks can be determined using the refractive index of the solution. We aim to compare the refractive indexes of various soft drinks, both regular and diet, and from using a reference scale (which we aim to devise ourselves) using various glucose and water concentrations, determine the sugar concentrations of the drinks and hence their dietary consequences. We are ready to start the experiment, we have fabricated the perspex prism needed to hold the liquids. We have devised a detailed method and purchased the soft drinks and glucose solution we plan to use. We will carry out the experiment in the next few days.
