Comhairle Na nOg

On Thursday 24th of March 5 students (Sinead McDonagh, Karen Costello, Brian Melia, Rory McInerney and Steven Morris) took part in a Comhairle Na nOg Congress in Portumna. This is a forum where young people from schools in the electoral area of south east Galway come together to voice their opinions on various topics of interest to them. It is a great opportunity for young people to get together and exchange ideas and make new friends.                                                                     Thanks to all people involved in the organization of this event.

Student Council Initiative

Sunday, February 13th, 2011

The student council has instigated a healthy eating project in our school. A committee of students initially did a survey of all pupils in the school with a view to finding out what the feeling of the student body was on healthy eating. Their motto was “Eat well, be healthier, feel better, look better, study better, and have a more fulfilled life.”

The feedback from this survey was very positive and they discovered that the majority were willing to try it out. It was decided that there would be no junk food (sausage rolls, chips, burgers etc.) on Tuesdays on a trial basis. Cereal bars and juices were to be introduced. Coke to be phased out completely the only fizzy drink to be 7up and sparkling water.

These alternative options are proving to be a great success so much so that it is envisaged in the future this will be extended to 4 days per week with just 1 day of junk food.
